Bay Area Youth Singers Fall Workshop & Concert with Nick Page

The Bay Area Chorus invites children and youth currently in grades 3 through 8 to participate in the fall workshop and concert of the new Bay Area Youth Singers. Children who love to sing, who want to learn to read music, and develop their vocal skills to the highest possible level will be interested in this exciting new musical opportunity.

The first two workshops will be Tuesday, Sept. 25 and October 2, 6:30-8:00 p.m. at University Baptist Church, 16106 Middlebrook Dr., Houston, 77059 - (MAP). Children will be introduced to good vocal technique, music reading, the discipline of a choral rehearsal, and will learn two exciting songs. The third workshop event is Tuesday, October 16, 6:30-7:45 p.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 18220 Upper Bay Road (just off NASA Rd. 1 across from the Space Center - MAP). The final workshop/rehearsal is Friday, October 19, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. This workshop will feature special guest, Nick Page, well known composer and director of children and youth choirs. The youth choir will join forces with the adult Bay Area Chorus for one spectacular song.

These four workshop/rehearsals will culminate in a concert, “Sing”, Sunday, October 21, 4 p.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Sponsored by The Bay Area Chorus, an adult community chorus with a 44 year tradition in our community, this concert will feature both the Bay Area Chorus and workshop participants of the Bay Area Youth Singers along with alumnae of the 2007 Summer Music Camp sponsored by the Bay Area Chorus. The audience will be invited to sing-a-long on many numbers, and a blue grass band will be on hand to provide some special accompaniment.

The workshop and concert will provide a preview of what our new Bay Area Youth Singers will be doing in 2008. All children and youth who would like to participate in the fall workshops and should email Carol Barwick, BAYS executive director at bays@bayareachorus.org. Visit our BAYS page for more information about the Bay Area Youth Singers.
